Morocco’s National Ports Agency Reports Positive Results for 2023

The Board of Directors of the National Ports Agency (ANP) met on July 10, 2024, under the chairmanship of Mr. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water. This meeting provided an encouraging assessment of ANP’s activities for 2023, despite a complex international economic and geopolitical context.

Moderate Growth in Port Traffic According to Mr. Mustapha Fares, Director General of ANP, ports managed by the agency handled 88.4 million tonnes of goods in 2023, an increase of 1.4% compared to 2022. This growth mainly occurred from August onwards, with an average recovery of 18.4%, thus compensating for the 9.7% decrease observed during the first seven months of the year. Dynamism in Sector Regulation ANP continued its efforts to diversify and modernize port operations.

Notable initiatives include signing a concession agreement for the New Port of Safi and launching several tenders, particularly for the operation of a quay at the port of Dakhla and the concession of the Essaouira shipyard. Sustained Investment in Infrastructure The agency maintained a high level of investment, with commitments reaching 729.2 million dirhams, 87.5% of the planned budget.

Infrastructure benefited from the majority of these investments, with 629.3 million dirhams committed. Improved Financial Performance ANP’s financial results for 2023 are particularly encouraging. Turnover increased by 20.1% to reach 2.512 billion dirhams. Added value amounted to 1.78 billion dirhams, representing an integration rate of 71%. Net profit saw a spectacular increase of 123.2%, reaching 105.2 million dirhams.

Commitment to Operational Excellence ANP continues to strengthen its competencies as a port authority, as evidenced by the renewal of ISO 9001:2015 certification for the harbor master’s offices of the ports of Laâyoune and Tan-Tan, as well as the improvement of maritime navigation aid systems. At the end of the meeting, the Board of Directors adopted the proposed resolutions.

Mr. Baraka then addressed, on behalf of the Board and all ANP staff, a message of fidelity and loyalty to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reaffirming their attachment to the Moroccan crown. These positive results highlight the resilience and adaptability of the Moroccan port sector in the face of global challenges, while laying the groundwork for sustained future growth.
