Egypt: Alexandria Port Achieves Historic Performance with More Than 82 Million Tons of Cargo Handled in 2025/2026

Alexandria Port, Egypt’s main port, recorded a historic performance during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During this period, the port handled more than 82 million tons of cargo, representing a 10% increase compared with the 74.8 million tons recorded in the previous fiscal year.

This growth was accompanied by a significant rise in containerized traffic, with 2.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) handled, representing a 13% year-on-year increase.

Cruise ship calls increased by 54%, marking the highest growth rate among all vessel categories. The port welcomed more than 82,000 cruise passengers, representing an increase of over 70% in maritime tourism traffic.

Ferry traffic also recorded positive growth, with a 25.7% increase.

Dry bulk vessel calls rose by 21.5%, reaching 1,605 calls, equivalent to 284 additional vessels. Meanwhile, calls by liquid bulk carriers increased by 11.8%.

Regarding containerized maritime transport, container ship calls reached 2,418, representing a 6.5% increase compared with the previous year.

Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir stated that this record performance reflects the continued investments made in port infrastructure, operational efficiency, and logistics services.
