First port of call for the MV Atlas One in the port of Mombasa

On Wednesday 21 August 2024, the MV Atlas One made its first call at the port of Mombasa. The vessel, managed by One Line Shipping, planned to unload 1,701 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) and load 1,600 TEUs before its departure.

Departing Singapore ten days ago, the MV Atlas One is scheduled to make a round trip to Singapore before heading to Shanghai, China, and then on to Mombasa. The Singapore-flagged vessel is scheduled to call at Mombasa at least once a month.

The Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Captain William Ruto, presented Captain Kyaw Nyi, the ship’s captain, with a first call certificate and a commemorative plaque.

Captain Ruto also welcomed the crew and One Line Shipping, saying that the large number of new calls was the result of increased capacity and reduced vessel turnaround time, far superior to any port on the east coast.

In addition, he said that One Line’s increase in calls to Mombasa was evidence that the shipping line was on the right track and making the right choices.

Mr Ruto went on to explain to the agents that the growth of the port of Mombasa was partly due to the fact that ships were deliberately choosing Mombasa because of the efficiency of its services.

One Line, which is part of East Africa Service 3 comprising PIL, Hapag Lloyd and GSL, will offer weekly direct services between China, South East Asia, Kenya and Tanzania with very efficient transit times.
