Liberia Set to Propel Maritime Sector with New Equipment and Nighttime Sailing at the Freeport of Monrovia

The Freeport of Monrovia is on the cusp of a new era of modernization and efficiency. The National Port Authority (NPA), in partnership with APM Terminals Liberia and the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), is proud to announce a major milestone in the development of Liberia’s maritime infrastructure.

His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, has been invited as Special Guest of Honor for an official ceremony to commission new port equipment and inaugurate navigational aid. This pivotal event is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the Freeport of Monrovia.

This momentous occasion will highlight three crucial advancements for Liberia’s maritime and economic development:

Commissioning of New Port and Marine Equipment: The deployment of modern handling and safety equipment represents a significant leap forward in operational efficiency, safety standards, and service quality at the Freeport of Monrovia. These cutting-edge tools will optimize daily operations and ensure a safer working environment.

Launch of Nighttime Navigational Aid: The Freeport of Monrovia will commence nighttime vessel navigation. This transformative step aims to considerably increase port productivity, reduce vessel turnaround times, and attract more maritime traffic. The ability to operate 24 hours a day will position the port more competitively at a regional level.

Presidential Tour of Upgraded Port Infrastructure: His Excellency the President will tour the newly modernized sections of the port. This tour will highlight critical investments made, perfectly aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure revitalization as a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation and inclusive growth.

This event underscores the strategic collaboration between the Government of Liberia, through the National Port Authority, and its concessionaire, APM Terminals Liberia. It further reflects Liberia’s commitment to strengthening its competitiveness in regional trade and promoting sustainable development, in line with international best practices in port operations.

The NPA and APM Terminals Liberia express their immense honor in welcoming President Boakai and reaffirm their dedication to supporting national goals through standardized port services.
