Members of the Parliamentary Network of Insurance, Financial, and Monetary Institutions, REPPAS, of the Cameroon National Assembly, were last September 19, 2024, visitors of the General Manager of the Port Authority of Douala, PAD, Cyrus Ngo’o. The 21-man delegation was led by Honorable Dieumeni Benilde, Chair of the Parliamentary Network of REPPAS.
The General Manager of the Port Authority of Douala in his welcome statement, briefed the visiting delegation on the port’s current operations, ongoing projects and plans for her expansion and modernization.
The Members of Parliament, MPs, told the management of the PAD that their visit was in line with their quest in fostering collaboration among financial institutions, enhancing knowledge acquisition and sharing, while promoting effective policies that drive economic growth. ‘By engaging directly with key stakeholders of the Port of Douala-Bonabéri, parliamentarians will gather valuable insights to inform legislative measures and improve financial ecosystems’, they said.
Mr. Cyrus Ngo’o, unrolled the Master Plan of the PAD, providing insights into the operational aspects of one of the region’s vital economic hubs – the Port of Douala-Bonaberi. He presented some ongoing projects, stressing on the demolition and reconstruction of outdated warehouses, the construction of modern infrastructure, the putting in place of a better dredging system with the aim of maintaining an acceptable navigation, the putting in place of a modern and well-structured security system, the internalization of the container yard as well as towing operations, amongst others.
After the working session, the MPs were taken round the Port of Douala-Bonabéri in a guided tour, for first hand appraisal of infrastructure and facilities. It was an occasion for them to understand the Port’s operational efficiency.
The Port of Douala-Bonabéri is one of the life wires of Cameroon’s economy, handling a over 85 per cent of the country’s imports and exports.
