SPA Receives a New Tugboat in its Fleet

The Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) received the newest tug in its fleet this afternoon. The new tugboat docked at Port Victoria just after 2pm.

As customary, it was received in the approach channel by tugs Mamelles and Alouette which escorted it, with the latter at the head, to its point of destination. It was greeted right after the Lighthouse monument with a spray of water by tug Ste Anne on its way as an official welcome. The new tug is a modern state-of-the-art one equipped with an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) system. It has an overall length of 21.02m with a draft of 4.5m and an 10.81m beam.

Additionally, it has a bollard pull of 50 tonnes and can reach a maximum speed of 12knots. The arrival of the new tug coincides with SPA’s 20th anniversary which was commemorated on 14th October 2024. It is testimony of the advancement in port operations, aligning with the Authority’s motto, ‘Facilitating Progress’. The tug is the newest after Mamelles, which was inaugurated last year. Altogether, SPA has now a fleet of four tugs.

The inauguration ceremony of the new tug will be held on 29th October 2024 at the Mahe Quay with the presence of key government officials and port stakeholders. Its name will be revealed in the same ceremony.
